The Atlantic Yards Project in Downtown Brooklyn, when fully constructed, will consist of eight million square feet of mixed-use development. One of the first components to be constructed was the Barclays Center arena, which opened in 2012. PHA was involved from the early stages of the overall project in developing travel demand forecasts and recommendations to accommodate vehicular and pedestrian circulation. The firm prepared the transportation analyses for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which included detailed analysis of traffic, transit, parking and pedestrian effects. As part of the project’s mitigation, PHA proposed a major reconfiguration of the complex Atlantic Avenue/Flatbush Avenue/Fourth Avenue intersection, which was implemented.
